About Social Commerce


   Since SNS(Social Network Service) appeared, The word 'Social' has been a popular word in Korea. And Social Commerce made an appearance in Korea. People liked the new shopping system and purchasing coupon of product at low price. And the social commerce provides people with many kinds of coupon from food to home appliances at low price. Do you think social commerce provides us with the good product at low price? My opinion is 'No' and that the social commerce has many problems.


   First, Profits. Coupons of restaurants which is sold by social commerce company have a limited use period. So the coupons should be used for a short time. Many consumers flock to restaurant for a limited use period. Restaurant are overloaded by many consumers for that period. Eventually, Both the consumer and the owners of restaurants are damaged. The consumers aren't satisfied with service and quality of food and the restaurants lose a reputation despite of low price because of a limited period. If you are a consumer of the restaurant, will you go to the restaurant again? Only the social commerce company get a great benefits. 


   Second, Verification. The social commerce company have ever sold the imitation product. This problem was a issue in the news. The social commerce company is a major company and it should check the a distribution process and a quality of a product before the product is sold. But it distributed the unauthenticated product to consumers. It was responsible for this situation.
   Also, social commerce company claims that it sells from 40% to 90% a discounted product. But the owners of the restaurants control the basic price of a  product for selling the coupon in the social commerce only. Although social commerce company sells discounted coupon of restaurant, the price of the coupon is not cheap because of the high basic price. And the owners of the restaurants target only a social commerce consumer.
The verification of social commerce is very weak.


  Sometimes the social commerce company sells good item at good price. The catching the good chance is a happy event. But I think people should not trust them completely and people should check carefully the information.
  Lastly, I have a question. What is the difference between a social commerce and a group purchase? I think a social commerce is a group purchase of a different sort. What do you think about that?

  1. I think social commerce and group purchase are quiet similar. A company or a seller promise to provide products at a discounted price because there are a large group of people who want to buy it. These days individuals also arrange group purchase on websites.

  2. Like you, I doubt the quality and service which coupons, social commerce provides, offer because I had much irritating experience in using that kind of coupons. If the social commerce want to get many potential consumers, they should check their flaws, and need supplementation in operating that kind of market.

  3. When I prepared presentation, I was curious about difference between group purchase and social commerce, too. So I researched it, the biggest difference is Social Commerce uses 'Social Networking Service' actively. but group purchase usually do not use the SNS.
